Kurtis David Harder's 2022 horror-thriller Influencer became a surprise viral hit on streaming, yet despite this and the fact that the villainous influencer-killer CW (Cassandra Naud) was still alive at film's end, few were expecting a sequel to ever materialise.
But Influencer evidently moved the needle enough for Harder to deliver a sequel, Influencers, last year, which many assumed would largely recycle the formula of the original movie.
Yet Harder's sequel is an ambitious and frequently expectation-defying follow-up which switches up the setting and structure of the first film, all while turning its satirical attention towards toxic alt-right influencer culture.
This is also a much funnier and more outlandish film than its predecessor, especially later on when Harder ramps the action up to a level of borderline camp, before ending on a cliffhanger which tees up one hell of an intriguing threequel - which he'll hopefully get to make.
