Suspiria: Everything You Need To Know About The Three Mothers

Since the release of the films, supplemental material and various comments from the Argento family over the years have fleshed out the history and beginnings of the Mothers.

Beginning in the early 11th Century, the story of the Three Mothers is actually the story of the originators of witchcraft. The three of them began dabbling in black magic and the occult, leading to each of them acquiring immortality and immense power. The exact source of their power remains unclear but more than one of them have claimed to be 'death personified' on multiple occasions.

Sometime around the 19th Century, they each realized they would need proper houses to support their powers and commisioned Varelli, a gifted architect, to build there three respective houses around the world.

At the time of Mother of Tears' release, Asia Argento hinted heavily that she and her father were writing a script for a prequel film that would fully chronicle the origins of the Three Mothers. And while that film never came to be, it does raise the question of whether or not Luca Guadagnino's new film will cover these beats in some capacity.
