SXSW 2022: 20 Movies You Need To Know About

16. Spin Me Round

Spin Me Round
Duplass Brothers Productions

Jeff Baena's (Horse Girl) new film reunites him with both regular collaborator Alison Brie and wife Aubrey Plaza for a tricksy black comedy in which a disaffected restaurant worker, Amber (Alison Brie), wins an expenses-paid trip to the company's lush "institute" outside Florence, Italy.

Without getting into too much detail - because this is definitely a movie best watched while knowing little - Amber soon comes to realise that everything isn't as it seems, with Baena and co-writer Brie introducing an increasingly uneasy genre fluidity to their story.

Beyond the unsurprisingly brilliant Brie, there's also fine supporting work from a cracking ensemble, namely Plaza, Alessandro Nivola, and Molly Shannon.

Spin Me Round is currently seeking distribution.
