Sylvester Stallone's 15 Biggest Movies - Ranked Worst To Best

2. Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985)

Now, back to the matter of Stallone's legend. From a critical standpoint, there's a lot to be said against Rambo: First Blood Part II. Quite apart from being jingoistic and bombastic with clear overtones of racism, it also takes itself far too seriously despite how patently absurd the whole set-up is (though admittedly not quite so absurd as Rambo III). All that having been said, Rambo: First Blood Part II is also undeniably one of the definitive action movies of the 1980s, and remains a tremendous piece of high-octane entertainment to this day. Ignore the real world political associations, and it's simply a contemporised take on a classic boy's own jungle adventure, with a gun crazy showdown that ranks among the best of them. Stallone was at his peak physically, and the sight of him with a bare chest, a red head-band and a minigun is one of his most iconic images - indeed, one of the most iconic images of the 80s full stop. Audiences lapped it up; with a global take of $300.4 million worldwide, Rambo: First Blood Part II is Stallone's third biggest hit.
