Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem Review - 7 Ups & 3 Downs

1. It's The Best Turtles Film BY FAR

As you may have guessed, this is undoubtedly the best of the dubiously-regarded Turtles films - the first in the series to receive predominantly positive reviews from critics, and deservedly so.

Even in its weakest moments, Mutant Mayhem has a consistent vision, tone, and style that nails the broad essence of its beloved characters even as it steers the franchise in uncharted new directions.

Needless to say, if it performs well enough to get a sequel - as, with its sensible $80 million budget, it probably will - this may end up becoming the dominant big-screen iteration of the characters after so many divisive prior attempts.

But even if it's a mere one-off, what a joy it is to see a genuinely very good Turtles movie that doesn't require audiences to hand-wave a bevy of flaws.
