8. High Noon
Once upon a time, the Western ruled Hollywood. Dances With Wolves and Unforgiven proved it still had legs in the 90s and Brokeback Mountain bought the genre to a 21st Century audience. The Coen brothers showed that even a classic John Wayne performance isnt above a remake with their take on True Grit but, for many, Gary Cooper as the sheriff torn between starting a new life with his family and fighting for the safety of his town stands as the best performance in the genre.
It takes a pretty smart man to know when to back away says one character
but unfortunately, Hollywood doesnt have many smart men so lets just hope we never get to the remake starring Dwayne The Rock Johnson.
