Terminator 2 3D Review: 6 Ups & 3 Downs

1. James Cameron Still Hasn't Topped It

Perhaps the most convincing statement of T2's brilliance and staying power is that James Cameron has struggled to top it ever since. Granted, Cameron has only made three theatrical features since, but not one, not even Titanic or Avatar, has landed with quite the same critical and audience fervour, melding intelligent, character-driven storytelling with superlative action as it does.

It's fair to say that Cameron will probably never top T2, and that's no bad thing, no matter how great the upcoming Avatar sequels could very well be. T2 is a benchmark for the sci-fi and action genres and a towering masterpiece by just about any classical critical metric.

Clearly, the fact that it's even getting the remaster treatment at all shows both how enduring it continues to be, and how much Cameron himself still cares about preserving it (and the money probably doesn't hurt either).

Did you catch T2 in 3D? What did you think of the restoration? Shout it out in the comments!
