There are a couple of overt biblical references peppered throughout the movie.

Most notably, Sarah is jokingly referred to as "Mother Mary," which might seem throwaway until you consider that, of course, in the Bible, Mary was the mother of Jesus, the saviour of humanity. Not too far away from Sarah herself, no?

It's also been speculated that Rev-9's name may be drawn from the Bible passage Revelations 9, which includes foreboding imagery such as, "the sun and sky were darkened by the smoke from the Abyss," which doesn't sound a million miles away from Judgment Day, no?
