Terminator Genisys: 10 Reasons It Could Surprise Everyone

1. Playing On Our Nostalgia

One of the reasons that Terminator 2 has held up as one of the greatest sequels of all the time is the way it treated its predecessor. It took the staples and iconic moments of the first film, and twisted them on their heads, creating something new that was still in-keeping with the style and appeal of the first film.

If what we’ve seen in the trailers is to be believed, then Genisys will duplicate that effect in spades. Except rather than figurative changes like transforming the Terminator from a hero to a villain, we are going to literally revisit moments from the first films and watch as they unfold differently, allowing us to remember why we loved the Terminator movies while seeing a creative take spin one the franchise’s most famous moments.

Trying too hard to cram in the past could easily bog the film down, but Genisys’s best hope for success lies in creating the feeling of nostalgia while blazing an entirely new adventure, something Terminator Salvation failed to do.
