The timeline of the Terminator films has always been a little skew-whiff, with the plot of basically every instalment in the franchise so far to do with somebody trying to change the future, or otherwise counter-act the actions of somebody else trying to change the future. As such what lies ahead for the Connor family and their cadre of robotic bodyguards has forever remained uncertain, as the happy endings of each Terminator film are undone by the time of the next one. Right now things aren't looking so hot for humanity, if Terminator Salvation is anything to go by. That crappy apocalyptic future still happens - despite the best efforts of, well, The Terminator, Judgement Day, and Rise Of The Machines - but audiences are probably a bit tired of seeing that. So Terminator: Genisys will reportedly be something of a soft reboot of the series, getting viewers back to square one and totally resetting the tangled timeline once and for all.
