Producers were probably a little anxious about returning to that far-flung future setting, what with Terminator Salvation being set exclusively in that period and earning the least amount of box office dough (and critical acclaim) since the low-budget original. Whilst Terminator: Genisys will be spending a lot of time in the past - even further back than even that first film, in fact - it will still be looking forward to that Skynet-ravaged future that's been the impetus for the whole franchise. According to the info and photos revealed in Entertainment Weekly, that future will certainly appear in some form, implying that stuff still hasn't really been ironed out. The second "collectable" cover released by the magazine shows Jason Clarke from Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes and Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith decked out in snazzy military fatigues, wielding what look a bit like paintball guns, looking all haggard and worn as people living in post-apocalypses often do.
