All this timeline-undoing and blank slating and the like brings up a lot more questions than it solves. What, for example, becomes of John Connor when his entire history has been altered? The greatest example of the Grandfather Paradox in fiction has had troubles with his mother before - probably not helped by the fact that he effectively ensured his own conception, by sending Kyle Reese back in time during the first movie to protect Sarah Connor and impregnate her - but this takes the cake. According to that Entertainment Weekly cover the futuristic soldier Jason Clarke will be playing is John Connor (with Matt Smith credited as ????), and A Good Day to Die Hard's Jai Courtney - who appears on the other cover, with Emilia Clarke - will take up the Kyle Reese role previously played by Michael Biehn and Anton Yelchin. So it looks like John Connor will be, erm, enacting the exact same plan as in the original Terminator.
