5. Avoxes Are Visible But Barely Mentioned For Two Films

Avoxes are people who are seen to have disobeyed or rebelled against the Capitol, who have been captured and had their tongues cut out. They are then brought to the Capitol to work as slaves. The Avox characters are highlighted and explored in the books, while appearing as background characters in the films. One of the most important Avoxes is Darius, who protects Gale from whipping. He's eliminated from the films entirely. In fact, though fans of the books may have spotted Avox servants in some of the Capitol scenes, lingering silently in the background, film-only fans wouldn't be aware of their existence. The word Avox isn't even used until Mockingay- Part One.
