8. Electro
One of the reasons why Spider-Man is so popular is his vast rogues gallery. Nearly each one of his enemies has something unique to their character; Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Venom, Carnage. Each one differs based off their alter ego, abilities, and reasons for hating Spider-Man/Peter Parker. One enemy in his rogues gallery that has yet to make his grand film adaptation (at least until 2014 comes around the corner) is Electro. Helmed as one of the villains that damn near killed Spider-Man in one their first encounter, Electro, aka Max Dillon, is one of Spider-Man's most powerful and intimidating foes. With the ability to generate unbelievable amounts of electricity (close to one million volts), and the ability to adapt to almost every electrical circuit or piece of equipment, including power plants, Electro easily earns his stripes. There have also been instances where he can push his powers past the point of magnetism. And even beyond that. At Comic Con 2013, Marc Webb explained Electro's status as "godlike," which poses a serious threat to Spider-Man. It's safe to say Electro will make quite the godly villain in TASM2. Played by the incredibly talented Jamie Foxx, Max Dillon/Electro is the next great villain to be brought from the rogues gallery. With all his prowess and abilities, Marc Webb chose wisely when narrowing down the villain (or one of) for TASM2. From all the production stills released thus far of Foxx in character for Max Dillon, he looks to take a new spin on the character that could harken back to the days of Spider-Man 2, when Dr. Otto Octavius transformed into Doc Ock and become a sympathetic villain that we all eventually cared for. While this might seem somewhat dingy with all the godly abilities Max Dillon/Electro has as his disposal, it seems fitting for the character Foxx is portraying in the film. The stills of him as Electro look genuinely frightening, with an aesthetic accustomed to the Ultimate version of Electro. This more stylized and serious form of Electro also fits into the world Marc Webb has made for his Spider-Man universe; instead of taking the comic book approach with the look of the villain, he chose to ground things to a natural tone and make it as realistic as possible. Because lets be honest, can we really see Electro in a film where he wears his traditional green and yellow costume with lightening bolts dangling off it? Not really. Of course , we still have Rhino and the Green Goblin to contend with, but it's in the choice of Electro that really sells the selective process behind the villain. With all the villains coming to the big screen in the latest comic book adaptations, Electro is one of most exciting for 2014. And with Jamie Fox carrying out the role, the idea of potential failure has been lifted significantly.
