The Amazing Spider-Man 2: 5 Scenes From The Comics We’d Like To See

1. Gwen Stacy €” RIP?

Gwen Stacy Gwen Stacy was Peter Parker's first true love in The Amazing Spider-Man comics. Although Peter had briefly dated Betty Brant, this was all before we had even gotten a glimpse at the gorgeous Mary Jane Watson. One of the biggest switch-ups between the two film series' was that they made an effort to stick to the original order of love-interests from The Amazing Spider-Man comics. Bringing in the fun and flirty Gwen Stacy gave immediately reminded the audience that this was a completely new franchise. With Gwen, came her Police Captain father, George Stacy, always questioning the true motives of Peter and his alter ego. Captain Stacy wasn't always Spidey's biggest fan, but died knowing the truth about Peter's super-identity during a battle on the streets of New York with Doc Ock. In the comics, Gwen angrily blames Spider-Man for the death of her father, unaware that in reality he's also her boyfriend. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will play out differently than this though, because although Gwen's father still died (this time at the hands of the Lizard, in order to save the city), Gwen already knows exactly who her boyfriend is and that it's not his fault. There are a lot of conflicted feelings in the Spider-Man fan community, as everyone is eager to see Gwen's big death scene (TASM #121), but doesn't want to lose the gorgeous Emma Stone from the third film. After pictures surfaced of Stone wearing Gwen's death-day outfit, this is when people started to get nervous. Could they really kill off the main female character (and one of Hollywood's best-known starlets) halfway through a trilogy? In short, the answer is: yes! In the comics, after Gwen's death, we see her return 23 issues later (TASM #144)€” this time as a clone! The clone saga is something that's been done many times in Spider-Man comics over the years (The Amazing Spider-Man, Web Of Spider-Man, Ultimate Spider-Man) but it's yet to be done in the films. This one's a twofer, but seeing Gwen die, only to be resurrected in the next film would be fresh and exciting.
