2. Mary Jane Watson - The Demogoblin
In The Amazing Spider-Man comics, it took our pal Peter an extremely long time to meet Mary Jane in person. Aunt May was always trying to set him up with "that nice Watson girl" next door, and Peter expected his Aunt to have terrible taste in girls. Fortunately for him, and the rest of us, May was just trying to fix Peter up with this firecracker redheaded beauty queen. Peter begins casually dating MJ for a bit, much to Gwen's dismay, until MJ proves to be a bit too superficial for him. MJ goes off with Peter's friend Harry Osborn, and Peter starts dating Gwen Stacy. After the Goblin kills Gwen, MJ comforts Peter, and this is where things get hot and heavy
serious dating, engagement, marriage and more. MJ was important in the establishment of Spider-Man as a loving and caring individual who was capable of being hurt, rather than just an invincible superhero. Although she wasn't Peter's first love, his path with MJ was much longer and more winding than any previous relationships with other girls. There's not a lot to hope for in regards to Miss Mary Jane, as the casting seems a bit off. While Shailene Woodley is beautiful in person, it seems as if their styling her a bit drab for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. This choice makes you wonder if they're following The Amazing Spider-Man comics or if director, Marc Webb, is making a concoction of TASM with The Ultimate Spider-Man comic series. In the Ultimate series, MJ wasn't the beautiful, young model we loved from the golden years. Instead, like most characters in this continuity, she was a lot more average. She worked fast food jobs, ran town on their school's newspaper and even wore glasses at some points-- can you believe that?! So if this is the Mary Jane we're going to be seeing in theaters next year, there are many more stories about her that we definitely haven't had a chance to see yet. A favorite, from Ultimate Spider-Man #101, is when Mary Jane is injected with the goblin serum and becomes a creature known as the Demogoblin. Seeing Peter battle his on-again-off-again girlfriend while at the same time trying not to hurt her too badly was something that no one really saw coming. With the Osborns making an entrance in this film continuity, this possibility of this storyline is doubtful, but isn't completely out of reach. As long as we get to hear her famous line, "you just hit the jackpot, tiger, most MJ fans will be satisfied.
