The Amazing Spider-Man 2: 8 Reasons To Be Excited

2. Taking Influence From The Right Sources

One thing that stands out about the two main villains in this movie is the sources from which their depictions are clearly being influenced. Electro and Rhino are very evidently being portrayed as they are portrayed in the Spider-Man: The New Animated Series and Ultimate Marvel universes respectively - and this is great for a couple of reasons... First, it shows that the movie's writers/producers are being selective about their source material to ensure the best live action depiction and, second, by not defaulting to the "classic" versions of the characters (from the 616 universe) for the sake of it, they've dodged a major potential bullet. Electro in the 616 universe wears a rather silly tight-fitting green suit decorated with yellow bolts of electricity. This wouldn't work in live action - the actor would look very dumb. His blue, crackling appearance and lack of a silly costume in this movie (as influenced by the 2003 animated show) is much more suitable. Rhino in the 616 universe wears a very corny rhinoceros-themed polymer mat bodysuit (which resembles a rhinoceros hide) with horns on it. It looks ridiculous. In this movie, his more Ultimate-influenced armour is far more fitting (we know armoured suits work on screen - see the Iron Man movies for a prime example). Essentially, thought has clearly gone in to this and it will pay dividends.
