The Amazing Spider-Man: 5 Common Criticisms And Why They're Wrong
3. Peter Isn't Nerdy Enough Are people really not tired of seeing Peter get picked on over and over again? Too often is the main protagonist bullied at school because he's nerdy and doesn't fit in no matter how hard he tries. True, The Amazing Spider-Man's Peter is not a nerd in his own right, but he chooses not to be. He's still socially awkward and does get bullied, but his rise to heroism is all the same and more modern to say the least. This movie is a reboot for a reason and following the same exact storyline that we've already seen ten years ago in a feature film would make this movie quite pointless - more on that later. Punk Peter Parker actually works in this day and age and Garfield's portrayal was spot on regardless of whether he was nerdy or not. I'm going to say it, I prefer Garfield's performance over Maguire's. Children these days need a reason to believe in a superhero, not a superhero to believe in.
