The Avengers 2: 5 Racially Diverse Avengers We Need To See

4. Luke Cage

From Rage to Luke Cage. I€™m a poet and I just don€™t know it. Luke Cage (also less cool-y known as Power Man) is one of the more popular and most well-known black superheroes and many people have been pleading for a Luke Cage film for a very, very long time. As a youth, he was sent to prison for a crime he did not commit ( a good political comment on the police€™s unfair and racist treatment of African Americans in the States if featured in the films). In order to get parole he agreed to undergo an experimental procedure. The procedure was intended to create an immunity to all illnesses but instead resulted in Luke (or Lucas at the time) gaining steel hard skin and becoming more muscular. After this, he escaped from prison, took on the identity of Luke Cage and became a hero for hire/private detective. A popular choice but a very controversial superhero, Cage was Marvel's attempt to get in on the Blaxploitation trend of the 70€™s and his dialogue and presentation in the earlier comics, such as exaggerated slang and being presented as very thuggish could very well, and should very well be considered racist. Maybe not the best character to include on this respect, but Marvel could certainly alter this for a film and make his character work. He is a skilled street fighter with an accelerated healing factor. Not really the most interesting set of powers (and the Avengers in their current form have arguably quite boring powers) but for this reason, added to his look, would probably fit in quite well with the current roster. Also, a film is apparently in production, though at very early stages and with no foreseeable release date. Still, a likely character for perhaps Marvel stage 3 or 4?

I am a recent Screenwriting for Film and Television graduate from the UK. I am an unashamed geek who loves everything Marvel, and anything Joss Whedon has ever touched (except for maybe Alien Resurrection and Titan A.E). My current favorite TV shows are Breaking Bad, Family Guy, House of Cards, Game of Thrones, American Horror Story, Homeland and Glee. I look forward to debating things with all of you in the future.
