3. Living Lightning
Before you start accusing me of having made a mistake, this isnt a list of only African Americans, and this next Avenger is interesting for a whole host of reasons. Miguel Santos, is a Mexican/American (see, this counts). Miguels father, Carlos was a member of the extremist group named the Legion of the Living Lightning. The group tried to gain control of the Hulk and manipulate him (this story element could fit into an Avengers sequel nicely) but failed, and Carlos was killed by the Hulk (killing almost all of the legion). Years later, Miguel, in an attempt to save his fathers name searched inside the Legion base. Accidentally turning on a machine which should have electrocuted and killed him, Miguel Santos instead was turned into a being of energy: living lightning. Living Lightning would definitely help to diversify the current Avengers line up. His powers are also cool enough and different enough to stand out in the team and make an impact. He can transform his body into electrical plasma, enabling him the ability to create electrical bolts and an electrical forcefield around himself. He also has the ability to be able to fly at sub-light speed and he must wear a special suit (maybe Iron Man could help with this) so he can remain in solid form. The suit also grants him greater control over his powers, and he has a basic knowledge of unarmed street fighting which would give him something in common with Luke Cage where they ever to appear in the same film as one another. Not only this, but the character is also gay, and it is my opinion that The Avengers film could at least do with one gay superhero to subvert the boring 1950s stereotypes. This makes him a very interesting, exciting, but unexpected choice for an Avengers sequel. Id like to see him in the films though.
