The Batman: 10 Actors Who Should Replace Ben Affleck

6. Adam Driver

Ok, yes, there are a couple of points that stand in the way of Adam Driver being a 'typical' Batman pick. One is that, while he's far from ugly, he isn't considered handsome in the conventional movie star sense (and yet is obviously still more handsome than most people you'll see in the street), and the other is that he's usually been pegged for a comic book villain, from being approached to play Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman, to many having him atop their Joker wishlist.

But all of that simply works in his favour. The idea of someone more well-known as a villain portraying the hero is not only great, but somewhat embedded in Batman casting (Keaton and Beetlejuice, Kilmer and Heat, Bale and American Psycho, Affleck and The Town). The unconventional looks just add to that: he's looks different to anyone else we've seen in the suit, but can still pull off a tuxedo as Bruce Wayne.

More to the point, though, is that Driver is a generational talent. There are few actors who can match the range he has, from the tormented Kylo Ren to the thoughtful Paterson. Look at the way he portrays the inner-conflict of Kylo Ren - which is proof he can do action and lead a blockbuster - and imagine that darkness funnelled through a hero. The sexual prowess, intellect, and self-absorption of Adam in Girls also lends itself well to Bruce. The work undercover in BlackKklansman, and how he's so easily able to play both sides and remain incredibly charming throughout? Yeah, he can do detective work too. Adam Driver can do it all, so he can certainly do Batman, and at 35 he's still (just) within the right age frame as well.
