The Batman: 10 Huge New Reveals From Director Matt Reeves At DC FanDome

8. A "Human," "Flawed" Take On The Caped Crusader

Despite having billions of dollars in the bank and wearing a cape and cowl to fight crime, it's important to remember that Batman is just, well, a man.

Exploring the vigilante's vulnerabilities is clearly important to Reeves, as he explains, "what's really important about this iteration is that a lot of the other stories are very much about how he had to master his fear and master himself in order to become Batman and that in that Batman state, he's sort of in his best self." Phew, sounds deep, eh?

That aspect appealing to Reeves is what led to him deciding against telling another origin story. Instead, he wanted us to "meet him in the middle of this criminological experiment, to see him in the becoming of Batman and to see him make mistakes as Batman and see him grow and fail and be heroic, do all of the things that we associate with Batman, but in a way that felt very human and very flawed."

This sounds like a fascinating take on the Dark Knight, and one which should help differentiate this iteration to previous ones. The fact Batman views his actions as an "experiment" of sorts is also intriguing, and he's clearly trying to find what works as he attemps to wipe out crime in Gotham City.
