The Batman: 10 Perfect Casting Choices For Robin
5. Asa Butterfield
He’s only 22, but it seems like Asa Butterfield has been around for quite a while. If Matt Reeves wants to really highlight the ‘boy’ aspect of the Boy Wonder, Butterfield could be a great pick.
He first made a name for himself as Bruno in the 2008 adaption of John Boyne’s novel The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas, though he did have a couple of credits to his name prior to this.
It’s his teenage roles which most qualify him for Robin though, in the more action oriented Ender’s Game and Hugo. Ender’s Game in particular sees Butterfield in the role of both mentor and teacher; he’s closer to Terry McGinnis than any actual Robin, but that still shows his capabilities.
He had some decent roles following this, quietly going about building a name for himself in the industry. Though he’s nowhere near famous enough to be a box office draw yet, he’s shown more longevity and versatility than most actors his age.
Most recently he’s starred in Netflix’s Sex Education, showcasing more personality and wit than most of his roles. He’s a reliable pick just building to the point in his career where a blockbuster could tip him over the edge.
