The Batman: 7 Reasons George Miller Must Replace Ben Affleck

4. The DCEU Is Ready For Some Insanity (And Fun)

Like it or not, the word "fun" has become a dirty one for some DC fanboys. Thanks to its association with the lighter, easier content of the MCU, those fans have applied it as a derogatory contradiction of "adult" - which they imagine is what DC movies should otherwise be.

But since when did comic book movies being fun become a toxic idea? That's precisely what comic books were built on, and there's absolutely no contradiction in saying they could be complex, adult and fun at the same time. It's about time that was embraced again, and the man who made the deliciously bonkers Fury Road is absolutely the right man for that job.

Miller isn't just imaginative, he's unhinged, which led to some supremely stunning visions in Fury Road, and which would translate incredibly well to Gotham City and the Dark Knight. That would also finally provide some respite from the impenetrably glum, po-faced spirit of the DCEU, which has made the films so far a slog at times. God knows we need it.
