The Batman: 7 Reasons George Miller Must Replace Ben Affleck

3. He's Incredibly Original

In contrast to the MCU's attempt to sign on directors who can fit the overall image of the shared universe and who are malleable rather than auteurs (Joss Whedon aside), the DCEU seems to have been built on the principle of hiring directors praised for their individualism. Miller would absolutely suit that agenda, and would arguably be the most fiercely personal film-maker they could ever hope to hire.

Consider how people talk about his Justice League vision:

"The best way I can describe it is: George Miller’s mind is so operatic and big and expansive, it’s a shame that the world didn’t get to see what he would do with superheroes. It was allegorical, like a story of Greek Gods almost. He was doing things with the Superman character and Batman character, and all the iconic favorites, that’s never been done before. Watch Fury Road and you can only imagine what he would do with those iconic characters."

That's one thing we would definitely be assured of with a Miller comic book movie: an original approach, and if DC and Warner Bros want to see their auteur manifesto through, they should take a gamble on a wilder card than they've played so far.
