The Batman: 9 Things That Are Impossible If Ben Affleck Returns
4. The Penguin
Just as it's high-time we got to see The Riddler on screen again in a movie, it's definitely also time we got to see The Penguin turn up as a villain. There's already been lots of flirting with the idea, with Josh Gad the subject of major rumours around a secret casting that has so far proved to be nothing.
And the reason it's proved fruitless? Because The Penguin's reign of terror in Gotham is already in the past. There's no opportunity to see him revealed to be the head of a criminal network, or a grotesque hidden monster a la Tim Burton's take on the character, because Batman has fought him before.
That much was established in the latest Justice League trailer, which had Alfred lament the days when all they had to face was exploding wind-up penguin. Notice, he says it in past tense: that time has been and gone for Affleck's Batman, and even if we met a Penguin further down the line, it simply wouldn't have the same impact as seeing his rise in Gotham.
