The Batman: Every Character Ranked From Worst To Best
6. Carmine Falcone
Because Carmine Falcone's presence was fairly minimal in The Batman's marketing, it was reasonable to expect nothing more than a mere cameo from Gotham's legendary crime boss.
But Falcone ends up having a far more substantial role than expected, as played with brilliantly restrained, quiet menace by the superbly cast John Turturro.
Compared to Tom Wilkinson's effervescent iteration of Falcone in Batman Begins, Turturro's version is considerably more sly and subdued, a calm, cunning criminal who operates in the shadows and has basically been Gotham's real mayor for the last two decades.
Beyond the fact that Falcone is ultimately the one behind Sal Maroni's incarceration and has many of Gotham's key players in his pocket, we learn much of Falcone's troubling past with Thomas Wayne - which affords Falcone respect for Bruce - and the genuinely surprising reveal that he's Selina Kyle's father.
It's almost a shame that Falcone is eventually killed by the Riddler, because Turturro does such fantastic work in the part, and he's such a fascinating character here that he clearly could've done wonders as a recurring antagonist.
