The Batman: Every Character Ranked From Worst To Best

4. James Gordon

The Batman Catwoman Zoe Kravitz
Warner Bros.

Gary Oldman's interpretation of Jim Gordon remains one of the most consistently beloved aspects of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Saga, and ensured Jeffrey Wright truly had his work cut out for him when taking on the part.

And while this isn't a particularly radical interpretation of a pre-commissioner Gordon, it really doesn't need to be: he's one of the few upstanding beacons of good in the GCPD, and also Batman's primary cheerleader on the force.

Wright makes his Gordon a determined yet understandably world-weary cop who believes in Batman's ability to change Gotham for the better, all while he himself operates within a fundamentally corrupt system.

This movie builds a firm foundation for future entries to build on, with Wright giving one of the most potent live-action portrayals of the character to date, even if he doesn't yet match the gravitas of Oldman's version (one solidified over a trilogy, admittedly).
