Sadly, for those hoping that The Batman would tie back into the franchise WB kickstarted with 2013's Man of Steel, it's looking pretty much nailed on at this point that the film will take place in a completely different continuity.

Even while the studio continues the DC Extended Universe with films like The Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey, they've proven increasingly willing to try something different. Joker was WB's first step towards divesting from the DCEU, and the film could yet prove pivotal if the studio are encouraged to return to more self-contained stories.

To paraphrase, Mark Hughes' Forbes article effectively states that Reeves is creating a whole new world for his version of Batman, and if the castings of Wright as Gordon and rumours of a new Alfred are anything to go by, that would effectively render his Batman incompatible with the DCEU, where the former role was occupied by J. K. Simmons, and the latter by Jeremy Irons.

Only time will tell how the approach pays off, but given Snyder's Batman proved divisive anyway, it's probably a good idea to distance Reeves' films away from his.
