Apart from a new trilogy of films, Forbes' article also states how The Batman could kickstart a whole new cinematic universe.

Even before Reeves became attached to The Batman, WB's plans for movies based on Batgirl and Nightwing had been well telegraphed. The former was led by Joss Whedon until he departed the project, while the latter - a film based around Dick Grayson after he left the Bat Family nest - found its director in 2017 in the Lego Batman Movie's Chris McKay.

Both projects have seemingly been put on hold, but Batgirl does have a script courtesy of Bumblebee and Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson, and McKay was polling fans on what they want to see in a Nightwing movie as recently as last February.

However, if Hughes' sources prove correct, then both Batgirl and Nightwing look to be set in this new "bat-world." The former has a more immediate future, while the latter is supposedly in limbo, pending the casting of Grayson in either one of Reeves' films.

You really do have to feel for McKay in this instance, but here's hoping he's able to start work soon. At the very least there's the Lego Batman Movie sequel coming in 2022, so he won't be without the Dark Knight for long.
