The Batman Movie Review: 8 Ups & 2 Downs
5. The Superb Ensemble Cast
The Batman is blessed with one of the most impressively stacked supporting casts of any recent superhero movie or blockbuster, period.
In the villainous stakes, Paul Dano is mesmerisingly creepy as The Riddler, who while on-screen less than you may be expecting is spine-tinglingly unnerving every single second.
Meanwhile Colin Farrell, under a pile of makeup to the point that he's near-unrecognisable, is outstanding as The Penguin, landing on just the right side of hammy and providing some welcome comic relief just when the movie needs it.
John Turturro is also perfectly cast as mobster Carmine Falcone, bringing a sly menace to the part that's quite chilling in its own way.
Elsewhere, Andy Serkis delivers an instantly likeable, younger iteration of Alfred, and Jeffrey Wright is excellent as the hard-boiled Jim Gordon. As for Zoƫ Kravitz's Catwoman? We'll get to her shortly.
