The Batman: Ranking The Action Scenes From Worst To Best
2. The Subway Station Brawl
What is great about Batman’s first fight is the major hype leading to it. We see criminals at night, only to spot the bat signal shining in the sky. They get paranoid that at any moment, Batman will come out of a dark corner. Then we go to a gang attacking a man alone in a subway station. The bat signal shines in the sky, but this time we hear footsteps coming out of the shadows. It might be the best entrance of Batman in any movie adaptation.
With the first beat down to a gang member, we know that this incarnation of Batman is brutal. Yet as he continues on battling multiple gang members at a time, we realize that no matter how brutal he is; he is still pulling his punches to not allow himself to kill someone.
We see this when he puts his hand on someone’s throat, then an electric discharge comes out of his gloves. But he does not hold on to the throat too long, so it will make no permanent damage. Batman also realizes that one of the gang members is very hesitant to fight him, so Batman does not engage him as much as possible. This is not just a fight, this is a learning guide to this Batman.
We get the satisfaction of seeing Batman do heavy punches without the terrible after-taste, unlike the Ben Affleck version.
