The Biggest Mistake Each DCEU Film Has Made

5. Wonder Woman: The Weak Villains

Thanks to dazzling action, one of the best hero arcs in superhero movie history and the Greatest superhero movie love story ever, Wonder Woman is the best DCEU film so far.

Still, although it's a superb film which blows the MCU's Captain Marvel out of the water, Wonder Woman still has a few issues. The most glaring problem, aside from too much slow-motion, dodgy CGI and occasionally jarring tonal shifts, are the villains.

In contrast to Wonder Woman (a surprisingly strong Gal Gadot) herself, who is one of the most lovable and heart-warming on-screen heroes of recent times, the antagonists suck.

The two German villains (Danny Huston and Elena Anaya) in the movie are largely uninteresting and although Ares, the big bad, is better, this is mainly thanks to David Thewlis' solid performance. He is still just another ludicrous OTT CGI bad guy in the end.

It was surprising to see such weak elements in what is otherwise such a well-rounded movie. Speaking of villains, it's arguable that the DCEU has had a bigger villain problem than Marvel ever did. It wasn't until Birds of Prey, the franchise's eighth film, that the DCEU finally delivered a genuinely awesome antagonist.
