The Commuter Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

2. The Absolutely Insane Action Sequences

The Commuter Liam Neeson
Lionsgate

The action in this film is a lot of fun, from the numerous fight scenes between Neeson and various shady train passengers, to the more cartoonish third-act insanity.

There's an action sequence in this movie involving unconventional use of a guitar that's hard not to grin at, and though the later set-pieces are almost, ahem, derailed by the aforementioned dodgy effects, the sheer silly freneticism helps keep them on the right track (sorry).

It was incredibly smart not to turn Neeson into Superman here and have him take his share of the hits, while punchy sound effects and Collet-Serra's strong direction ensure most of the carnage is enjoyable to watch.

For a $30 million thriller, you certainly get plenty of bang for your buck.
