Enter the Joker, and his question is quite simple to this city: why so serious? This city is so caught up in its self-image of noir and doom. Joker, while a reflection of Gotham, is hoping to add a little humor in the style of the city: schadenfreude. TheJoker comes off as someone who recognizes the city for what it truly is, and isn€™t afraid to laugh at something so terrible. He alone gets the joke. He understands everything, and that€™s why he laughs the hardest.
