The Dark Knight Rises: 10 Neglected Plot Lines That Should Have Been Developed

5. What Was Bane Doing During The First Two Movies?

the dark knight rises bane2 Bane's surely one hell of a character. Both in the comics and in the film he was a menacing criminal who was smart enough to discover Batman's true identity as well as a way to destroy him both physically and mentally. While the movie gave the character a couple of interesting twists on his origin story, it didn't explore the full potential this character had. In this entry I'm mostly going to focus on one aspect on how Bane was portrayed and that is that we never knew what he was doing during Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, nor during the 8 year gap between The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. Was he gathering his army to fight against Bruce Wayne? Was he training himself to be a mercenary? And most importantly, what was Bane and Talia's original plan? After all both of them were excommunicated when it was discovered that Bane had a crush on Talia, and unwilling to let her best friend go she left the League of Shadows alongside Bane. What happened after that? Were they just gathering an army with the purpose of fighting against Ra's's? Or were they trying to prove that they could do it better than him? This also raises an important question: how can you explain that despite being excommunicated they had full control of the League of Shadows? And for that matter: how did they know who Batman was if Ra's never had a chance to tell them? So many questions, and yet not a single answer.
