The Dark Knight Rises: 5 Reasons We Love Anne Hathaway's Catwoman

4. No Origin Story

One of the great things about this version of Catwoman is that she didn't come with an origin story. She just was. The only thing close to a back story is the clean slate she was working for, but that was easily overshadowed by Kyle just being on screen. Sometimes the best things don't need an explanation. An origin story would have made Catwoman a very one-dimensional character as the mystery adds to her confidence. And come on, we've seen all the origin stories there are. Besides, her intro scene was brilliant in giving the audience something to latch onto. The camera sneaking behind her as she walked through the crowd, her quiet mumbling when approached, and her childish curiosities had me wondering if she would be bitten by a radioactive cat and then turned into Catwoman. Then she lowered her head and it all came together. The artistry, dialogue, and cinematography in this scene gave a taste of what this Selina Kyle could do - it was graceful, elegant, but oh so dangerous.
