The Dark Knight Rises: 9 Things Nolan Should Have Done

4. Taken the Selina Kyle Sub-Plot Out Completely

I€™ve said it before and I€™ll say it again. I€™m adamant that Nolan tried to say too much, to include too many sub-plots in TDKR, and once he€™d included them, they we€™re all linked and unmovable, like a giant, Dark Knight shaped game of Jenga. If anything had been removed in post-production, I doubt the move would have worked whatsoever. This is the classic Star Wars: Episode One conundrum. Honestly ask yourself, did we need the Selina Kyle plot? What did it actually do for the movie, other than add to its length? Yeah, Selina Kyle turned in a great performance; she€™s arguably the best screen version of Catwoman to date. But was she needed in TDKR? Not one bit, from what I can remember. I€™m a long-term Batman fan, and I think Catwoman is an awesome character. But she was just an unnecessary inclusion, and it felt as though she was added in a devilish attempt to lure me to the cinema, but beyond that, Nolan didn€™t really know what to do with her. Personally, I€™d have been much happier if she just hadn€™t been included at all, and the film ran that little bit shorter.
