The Dark Knight Rises: 9 Things Nolan Should Have Done

3. Explored Jim Gordon€™s Personal Life

GCPD Commissioner Jim Gordon is a huge draw in the Batman comics. Some of the most memorable storylines (Frank Miller€™s Year One, The Long Halloween or No Man€™s Land, to name a few) feature him heavily; his relationship to Batman as well as his often troubled personal life and battles with his personal demons. Said personal demons are often attributed to the state of Gotham City, which in turn indirectly relates back to Batman, explains €“ in a show-don€™t-tell kind of way - Gordon€™s eagerness to rely on the Dark Knight. Jim Gordon was admittedly featured heavily throughout Nolan€™s trilogy, but I can€™t help but feel he was still underused. As it stands, Gordon€™s only impact on the plot is in relationship to Batman. I can€™t help but feel that he should have had a more personal sub-plot at least somewhere in the trilogy, in place of some of the added characters who, in my opinion, were under-established, and ultimately difficult to fully buy into.
