Selina Kyle (Catwoman)
"You don't owe these people any more! You've given them everything!" The standout character of the movie, Selina Kyle will do anything for herself. She's the embodiment of the current "strong woman" archetype: she can fend for herself, remains stylish while doing so, understands - not tries to cover up - her weaknesses, doesn't get captured or thrown off a building, and she most importantly
outsmarts every man who crosses her in a movie full of men. Audiences fall hard for that last one. Kyle was fantastic in her dialogue with Wayne exuding a sort of seductive confidence not seen in superhero movies. However, as effective as her character is, not much can be said about her importance to the plot. She was - like Gordon - used solely as a plot device. Her arc of wanting the clean slate was an attempt at giving her story some dimension, but was ultimately unnecessary. She was featured heavily in the first third of the movie in order to build character, but even then she was used as a tool in bigger schemes that were beyond her. Too add more fuel to the useless fire, she had an even more useless friend who served no purpose. However, taking into the themes of the movie, Kyle represented the much needed voice of the
lower class: scorned, but hopeful - more on this later. Importance In Story: 4/10 Effect Of Character: 9/10
