The Dark Knight Trilogy: 10 Best Villain Moments

10. "You've Never Tasted Desperate"

Tom Wilkinson's fantastic turn as Gotham mob supremo Carmine Falcone is an important part of Bruce's journey from billionaire boy to Batman, as Falcone thuggishly shows Bruce he can't take on the mob as Bruce Wayne. "Now, you think, because your mommy and your daddy got shot, you know the ugly side of life, but you don't. You've never tasted desperate. You're ... you're Bruce Wayne, The Prince of Gotham. You'd have to go a thousand miles to meet someone who didn't know your name" snarls Falcone, putting Bruce in his place while underlining the film's central theme of fear: "So don't come down here with your anger, trying to prove something to yourself. This is a world you'll never understand. And you always fear ... what you don't understand." For an English actor, Mr Wilkinson's Italian American 'Gotham accent' is spot on and his presence is truly menacing - never more than when he says "BANG", threatening Bruce's butler, or his "lady friend down at the DA's office."
