The Dark Knight Trilogy: 15 Best Moments

9. Light It Up

With Gotham in pieces as Bane rules the city, the citizens have fallen into desperation. As the crazed judge Dr.Crane sends Jim Gordon, the only light left in a city bathed in darkness, out to exile, it seems as though all hope may well be lost. Until out of nowhere, bane's thugs are taken down by flying objects. Batarangs? But that means....And there he is. Stepping out of the shadows and smoke in a quite glorious shot, the Dark Knight tells Gordon to light up the flare, and in turn we see the flame spread onto a building to create a massive, flaming bat signal. Everybody loves a comeback.

8. Why Do We Fall, Bruce

Alfred and Bruce's relationship forms the emotional anchor throughout the entire trilogy, bringing us back to earth and reminding us that behind the mask, Wayne is a complex human being. As Wayne Manor burns, the two escape into the lift down to the batcave, where an exchange between the two in which Alfred quotes the words of Bruce's late father, offering Bruce hope and setting up an exciting climax to a truly stunning film. It's not one of the films showier moments, but it's sublime acting from both and it's another wonderful exploration of their relationship.
