The Dark Knight Trilogy: 15 Best Moments

5. Star Spangled Banner

Sometimes the sight of explosions and ruins, when done right, can be absolutely stunning. As Bane walks ominously down the tunnel of the football stadium to utter silence other than the chilling sound of a young boy singing the national anthem. "Such a lovely voice." remarks the cool and composed Tom Hardy, before initiating the explosion of all explosions, letting the pitch crumble beneath a running player as his team-mates fall screaming into the chasm that's been created.

4. The Magic Pencil

"And I thought my jokes were bad" remarks the Joker as he swaggers into the room where Gotham's various mob members are meeting. Millions of deaths have been graced our cinema screens over the years, but few have been as brutal and shocking as the Joker's execution of Gamble's henchman. After seeing Scarecrow use fear and madness as a way to dispose of his victims in the first Batman film, we're introduced to a villain that, while intelligent and unhinged, is also capable of brutality, in a slightly humorous fashion it has to be said. How The Dark Knight got a 12A rating we'll never know.
