6. Scarecrow
Let me just start off by saying that Cillian Murphy is one of my favourite actors; everything I have seen him in has been brilliant and he normally steals the show; but as the fearful villain Scarecrow, he just wasn't as good as the rest. Not saying he wasn't good, because he was brilliant, just that in Batman Begins Ra's stole the show for me and he had next to nothing to do in the following two films. Cillian as Scarecrow was in all three Bats films, the secondary villain in Begins and a small cameo in the two sequels. His role in The Dark Knight for me was weak; while it was nice seeing him, he had nothing to do and didn't affect the film in one tiny way. In The Dark Knight Rises his role was slightly better and he actually had something to work with here; he was funny but sinister in his two-minute cameo. In Begins he made the film "dark and gritty"; his use of fear and the fear toxin is what primarily made the film scary (for young kinds anyway). The fact that he doesn't come in until after an hour affects it a little for me, as we had less time to get used to his character, but nevertheless he was wonderful in the film even if ranking at #6.
