Vampires are at large in the Dark Tower universe, and although we don't see any in the movie, a reference to a rather famous one crops up.
During a scene featuring Roland in New York, a sign reading 'Barlow and Straker's' is seen hanging from a building, evoking Stephen King's vampire classic Salem's Lot.
Kurt Barlow is the blood sucker who terrorised the small Maine town of Jerusalem's Lot in the novel and subsequent adaptations, while Straker is his human thrall.
Father Callahan, the priest from Salem's Lot, features in the Dark Tower series further down the line as a seasoned vampire hunter who assists Roland and his companions.
