Temper your expectations.

What a shock it was this week when a work-in-progress trailer for the upcoming The Dark Tower adaptation landed online after someone who probably doesn't have a job anymore accidentally posted it to a Japanese Vimeo account.

Though Sony have been racing to remove every trace of the trailer from the web, of course, that's simply not going to happen, and so you can easily find it yourself if you take even a cursory trawl through Google.

It's worth bearing in mind that the video is low-quality and the abundance of incomplete CG work means it's not a definitive representation of the final movie, but at the same time, it still gives fans and newbies alike a firm feel for what sort of tone the film is trying to strike and how it will look.

Here are 10 things we learned from the leaked Dark Tower trailer...

10. A Lot Of The Movie Takes Place In "Our World"

Around half of the Dark Tower trailer takes place on a planet at least resembling our world, specifically New York City in the modern day (or close enough).

Considering that much of the appeal of this movie will be getting to see Mid-World realised before our very eyes, it's a little disconcerting that so much of the movie seems to be set in a far more familiar locale.

Of course, the balance could be tipped in favour of Mid-World in the actual film itself, but given how many distinct scenes are shown off in New York (featuring the three main characters Jake, Roland and The Man in Black), it really seems like this probably won't be the case.

This isn't to say it will sink the film on its own, but simply to exercise caution with regard to your own expectations about how it will handle world-building.
