The Dark Tower Leaked Trailer: 10 Things We Learned
6. It Will Be Very Different From The Books
It's a very wise move by Columbia Pictures to admit from the outset that this adaptation isn't going to cling faithfully to the source material, because given its complex density, you couldn't begin to do justice to even a small part of it in a two-hour movie.
If you're hoping for something hardcore and totally indebted to the books, you're probably better off giving it a miss. This instead will be something of a compromise between the acclaimed source material and Hollywood formula, evidenced by the adventure movie tone, teenage POV protagonist and presumably streamlined narrative.
There are sure to be a ton of complaints upon release that the movie has been too "Hollywood-ised", but in adapting a novel largely unknown to mainstream movie audiences, these concessions are somewhat necessary if you actually want people to invest in the film, get it made and probably go see it too.
As long as fans go in accepting this, they should be fine.
