Roland will be met with fierce opposition, however, from Walter Padick aka The Man in Black, an immensely powerful sorcerer who wishes to reach the Dark Tower before Roland does and preside over everything it holds.

Roland refers to him as worse than the Devil, and though there's much fan division over Matthew McConaughey's casting considering he could easily land on the wrong side of smarmy and charming, he's at least bringing some deliciously creepy menace to the table.

McConaughey doesn't tend to play many out-and-out villains these days, but his work in 2011's Killer Joe is pretty much lifetime proof he can play a sublime sleazebag with the best of them.

And just look at those eyes.
