And of course, there's Jake Chambers (played by newcomer Tom Taylor), a young boy who essentially performs the every-man function here, to introduce the audience to this world and guide them through it as naturally as possible.

When we first meet Jake, he wakes up from a violent vision that appears to rock his entire bedroom, before he goes to a therapist's office and explains that he sees the Tower, the Man in Black and the Gunslinger in his dreams.

The therapist naturally insists they're merely dreams and nothing more, but Jake's obsessive wall of drawings shows he clearly knows otherwise.
