The Disaster Artist Review: 8 Ups & 1 Down

6. The Recreations Of The Room's Scenes Are Spot-On

The Disaster Artist James Franco
A24

One of the major treats of this film is getting to see not only how some of The Room's most iconic scenes were put together, but how James Franco has made every effort to painstakingly recreate them.

During the closing premiere scene and a credits sequence which includes many shot-by-shot comparisons of the original scenes and Franco's recreations, the framing and minor physical tics in the performances are scarily spot-on at times, and it's a terrific joy to behold.

Franco in particular has clearly invested a lot of time in nailing the precise intonations of Wiseau's performance: when his scenes are lined up with the originals, more often than not they're basically note-perfect.

It also has to be said that the production design on this movie is fantastic, recreating The Room's now-iconic sets with an impressive veracity, right down to precise placements of the most trivial objects. Bravo.
